Boys and Girls Club Partnership
The Boys and Girls Club of San Antonio and Apps for Aptitude are teaming up to increase STEM education among San Antonio youth. Soon to be an official partner of the School's Out Hackathon, the Boys and Girls Club will be actively involved in the planning and executing of this upcoming year's Hackathon as well as working with our team to improve local computer science initiatives.

The 80/20 Foundation and Apps for Aptitude have partnered to increase STEM education in San Antonio through efforts such as the School's Out Hackathon. AFA is now officially part of the STEM Education Tribe! Through this partnership with the 80/20 Foundation, we hope to increase our impact in both quality of computer science education as well as number of students impacted.

Codeup Scholarship Winner
In partnership with Codeup, we provided a $10,000 scholarship to Alexandra Garza for her to attend their coding classes for the upcoming 2014-2015 Codeup session. Because of her exemplary commitment to coding at such an early age, Alexandra was selected to receive an education in advanced web development languages and be able to learn applicable skills for IT jobs in the future.

School's Out Hackathon Winners
GroupDesk and The Personal Concert Experience took Grand Prize in Software and Hardware for the 2014 School's Out Hackathon. Additionally 8 other teams won prizes from across the nation won over $12,000 in prizes from Oculus Rift, RadioShack, AFA, Microsoft, Mashape, Google, Firebase, and more.

School's Out Hackathon was a Success!
On June 13-14, 2014, Apps for Aptitude hosted one of the first high school hackathons ever with over 512 students in attendance. Over the course of 36 hours, students created a collective 80 apps, websites, and hardware hacks. Over $50,000 was raised for the event and was free to attend for all high schoolers.

Apps for Aptitude LOFT Innovation Winners
Apps for Aptitude won the 2013 LOFT innovation grant and ESA Fellowship. In addition, the LOFT foundation sponsored an AFA team member, Mia Benavidez, to fly out to Washington, meet with several influential politicians over the course of three days, and present the applications and work of AFA at the White House.

Apps for Aptitude CreateHS October Challenge Winners
Co-Founders Abhinav Suri and Joshua Singer created a website for the CreateHS October Challenge. Out of many entries in this national competition, our Learn HTML website took first prize. The website teaches the basics of HTML programming and allows people to get started learning code.

Apps for Aptitude Awesome Foundation Grant Winners!
Apps for Aptitude won the Awesome Foundation $1,000 grant. AFA Representative Alejandro Juul accepted the award on behalf of the AFA team. He commented “It doesn’t matter who you are, where you’re from, what part of the city you live in, you can learn to code.” The money will be used to promote AFA's new application called Cards for a Cause.

Apps for Aptitude visits Geekdom and 80/20 Foundation
Apps for Aptitude co-founders Josh Singer and Abhinav Suri went to meet with Lorenzo Gomez and Scott Meltzer at the 80/20 foundation. AFA and 80/20 are currently working together to help AFA with its future goals. Along the way, Josh and Abhi got to visit Geekdom, the potential home to AFA offices in the future!
